International Women’s Day

Dany CottonDeputy Assistant Commissioner Dany Cotton has been named as one of the Independent on Sunday’s ‘100 Women who changed the world.’

The list - A century of distinction: 100 Women who changed the world - was published to mark the 100th International Women’s Day (Monday 8 March).

A celebration of “100 British women who have, arguably, done most to shape the world we live in today,” the list is drawn from all walks of life and salutes women who have “changed the world for ever and for the better.”

Dany joined the Brigade in 1988. She is now the highest ranking operational woman in the UK fire and rescue service and one of the only women to be awarded the Queen’s Fire Service medal, which she received in 2004.

Dany has attended a number of high profile incidents throughout her 22 year career and just five months after completing her training was involved in the response to the Clapham rail crash. She also attended the Cutty Sark fire in 2007 where she found herself the face of London Fire Brigade, giving interviews about the incident to media crews from all over the world.
