Four fire engines and around twenty firefighters were called to a fire in a shop with flats above on Green Lanes, Tottenham last night. Part of the ground floor was damaged by the blaze. The whole of the staircase from the ground floor to the second floor was completely destroyed.
Eight people escaped from the building before firefighters arrived on the scene. A further fourteen people were rescued from the first floor by firefighters using ladders. Seven adults and one child suffered from smoke inhalation and were treated by London Ambulance Service crews, before being taken to hospital.
The Brigade was called at 2252 and the fire was under control by 2357. Firefighters from Tottenham and Hornsey fire stations attended the incident. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
