Scrapyard fire - Silvertown

Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters tackled a fire at a scrapyard on Thames Road in Silvertown.

Around 40 tonnes of scrap metal was alight. There have been no reports of any injuries.

One of the Brigade's 32 metre turntable ladders was used to help tackle the flames from height. A drone was also deployed to provide a better aerial view of the fire.

The fire produced large amounts of smoke and the Brigade's 999 Control Officers received 28 calls about the incident. People in the area were advised to keep their windows and doors closed.

The Brigade was called at 2259 and the fire was brought under control by 0123. Crews from Plaistow, East Ham, Poplar, Millwall and surrounding fire stations attended the scene.

The fire is being treated as accidental.
