A single, publicly accessible register of product recalls

When faults are found, the product recall system should ensure unsafe products are removed from people's homes.

However, it can be extremely difficult for consumers to check if the appliances they have in their home are subject to any product safety recalls.

What difference would a single register make?

The current recall procedure is timeconsuming for people due to the lack of a centralised list. This makes the task of promoting the awareness of product recalls harder for organisations such as ours.

There should be one, trusted location for consumers to visit to look up whether their appliances are subject to a recall notice.

Doesn't this exist already?

There is no single, government supported register that currently exists.

Instead consumers must either check individual manufacturer's websites or use a voluntary service, such as the Electrical Safety First recall register (opens in a new window).
