Firefighting isn’t a typical job, so our application process isn’t typical either. It’s not about writing a CV or filling in forms. We want to meet you face-to-face and get to know you through our three-step Outreach Programme.
That’s why attending one of our Outreach events is the first step in applying to be a firefighter. At these events you can speak to our Outreach team about the role and ask any questions you might have, and we can learn more about you.
Hopefully at the end of that conversation you’ll be even more certain that firefighting is the right career for you. If that’s the case our Outreach team will take your name and email address and will be in touch to invite you to the second step in becoming a firefighter - an online information session.
The final stage will be to join us at an Outreach Experience Day, where you will be able to understand the practical aspects of the job and see if this is the right for you.
After these three stages are completed, you will be able to progress to an application process.
Before 2023 it wasn’t necessary to attend an Outreach event before coming to an online information session. However we found that those who had attended an Outreach event had a better understanding of the role and what we’re looking for, so we’ve decided to ask everyone to complete this step first.
