Six fire engines and 35 firefighters and officers were called to a fire at a recycling warehouse on Ilderton Road in Peckham, this morning
The single storey warehouse had a mezzanine floor, most of which was damaged by fire. There were no reports of any injuries.
Station Manager Terry Gooding who was at the scene, said: “When we arrived there was lots of thick black smoke and flames were punching out of the window. Crews got water onto the fire very quickly and worked hard to successfully stop the fire from spreading across to the recycling plant.”
Firefighters from Greenwich, Dockhead, Deptford, Peckham, New Cross and Old Kent Road fire stations attended the incident.
The Brigade was called at 0855 and the fire was under control at 1011. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
