18 firefighters and officers tackled a fire in a semi detached house on Edmeston Close, Hackney last night. Three adults left the building before the arrival of the Brigade and crews wearing breathing apparatus rescued an elderly woman from the first floor but she was sadly later confirmed dead.
Ten percent of the first floor was damaged by the fire.
3 fire engines from Homerton and Bethnal Green fire stations attended the incident.
The Brigade was called at 2007 and the fire was under control by 2123.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
