Firefighters were called to reports of people in the water at Wandsworth Bridge last night.
When fire crews arrived a man who had been clinging to a small boat had been rescued by Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) crews. Fire crews were committed to the search for a further person.
RNFI found a woman unconscious in the water by Putney Bridge. Both were taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews. Sadly the woman died later in hospital. The man's condition is not thought to be life threatening.
Firefighters on our Fire Boat helped recover the boat from the river.
The Brigade was called at 2355 and the incident was over for us at 0036. The Police are not treating the incident as suspicious.
