One person was injured after a fire in a commercial premises on Ley Street in Ilford last night.
The fire began in a commercial premises on the ground floor of the building and spread to accommodation on the first floor.
Three people left the building before the Brigade arrived. Two were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene by the London Ambulance Service and one was taken to hospital suffering from burns and smoke inhalation.
Watch Manager Nigel McCormick who was at the fire, said:
"Although some people had left the building before we arrived, there was reports of a fourth person still trapped inside. Visibility was very poor and so we used a thermal imaging camera and conducted a fingertip search of the building but thankfully nobody else was inside.”
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Ten fire engines and 72 firefighters and officers fought the fire from Ilford, Barking, Dagenham, Hainault and Woodford Fire Stations.
The Brigade was called at 2159 and the fire was under control by 2314.
