Firefighters were called to a car on fire on the Old Kent Road near to its junction with Malt Street in Bermondsey SE1 during the early hours of this morning.
The car is believed to have been in collision with a tree and sadly the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Brigade was called at 0227 and left the scene at around 0645. Two fire engines, a fire rescue unit and around 15 firefighters from Peckham, Dockhead and Bethnal Green fire stations attended the incident.
The incident is being investigated by the Metropolitan Police.
