Six fire engines and around 35 firefighters were called to a fire in an eight storey block of flats on Lancaster Terrace in Bayswater this afternoon
The fire damaged a fifth floor flat and around 20 people left the building before the Brigade arrived. One woman was taken to hospital suffering from burns to her hands.
Station Manager Kevin McKenzie who was at the scene said: "Crews acted quickly to stop this fire from spreading to neighbouring flats and managed to confine it to the flat where it started."
The Brigade was called at 1432 and the fire was under control at 1522.
Crews from North Kensington, Chelsea, Soho, Euston, Clapham and Stanmore fire stations attended the incident. Firefighters will remain at the scene damping down.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
