Extended family escape Westminster house blaze unhurt thanks to their smoke alarm.
Seven adults and two infants were alerted to a fire in the basement of their house on Queen Annes Gate, called the Brigade and evacuated the property.
Firefighters contained the fire to the basement with the rest of the four storey home smoke damaged.
Station Manager Andy Walton, who was at the scene said:
“Another positive story about the importance of smoke alarms. Everyone should have at least one smoke alarm on every level of your home and the safest option is have those linked together. This will give the earliest warning if there is a fire in your home.”
The Brigade was called at 1047 and the fire was under control by 1140. Fire crews from Lambeth, Soho, Dowgate and Old Kent Road fire stations attended the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
