Firefighters attended a fire at a shop with flats above it on High St, Barkingside this morning.
The fire affected the ground floor of the property, part of which was damaged by fire.
Four people were assessed for smoke inhalation by London Ambulance Service.
Station Manager Steve Smith said:
"One member of staff and a family who lived above the shop were evacuated before we arrived.
The crews worked really hard to stop the fire spreading to the surrounding properties."
Six fire engines and 35 firefighters and officers from Hainault, Ilford and Woodford fire stations were at the scene.
The Brigade was called at 0805 and the fire was under control at 0925. The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.
