Firefighters rescued an elderly woman from a third floor maisonette following a fire on Shrubbery Road in Streatham Hill during the early hours of Sunday morning.
Crews wearing breathing apparatus rescued the woman from a window sill and brought her to safety via an internal staircase. She was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service suffering from burns and smoke inhalation.
Firefighters managed to confine the fire to the affected maisonette which was left badly damaged by the blaze.
Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers from Tooting and Norbury fire stations attended the incident. The Brigade was called at 0158 and the fire was under control by 0321. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police.
