4 adults and one child were alerted to a fire in their Stockwell flat on Christmas Day thanks to a smoke alarm sounding.
On hearing the alarm they were able to leave the flat before the Brigade arrived. 35 firefighters and officers attended the fire in the high rise block of flats on Clapham Road, Stockwell and around a quarter of the flat was damaged in the fire.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said:
“It’s incidents like these that show how important it is to have a working smoke alarm that you check regularly in your home. Everyone should have at least one smoke alarm on every level of your home and the safest option is have those linked together. This will give the earliest warning if there is a fire in your home.”
6 fire engines from stations including Brixton, Lambeth and Peckham fire stations attend the incident.
The Brigade was called at 0632 and the fire was under control at 0737.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
