Firefighters have rescued five people from a fire in a three storey block of flats on Old Road in Enfield this morning.
The blaze left a ground floor flat in the block badly damaged and also seriously damaged communal stairs between the flat’s ground and second floor..
Crews led two men from the ground floor, a man and a woman from the first floor and a further man from the second floor to safety. All were suffering from smoke inhalation and four men were taken to hospital.
The Brigade was called at 1000 and the fire was under control by 1104. Crews from Enfield, Edmonton and Chingford fire stations were at the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
