Six fire engines and 35 firefighters and officers attended a flat fire in Camberwell yesterday afternoon.

The blaze broke out in a property on the third floor of a block of flats in Camberwell Road. A neighbour called the Brigade after the flat’s occupant raised the alarm.

A third of that flat was damaged by fire and the flat above suffered heat damage.

Two people were treated at the scene by London Ambulance Service crews.

The Brigade was called at 1433 and the fire was under control at 1631. Firefighters from Old Kent Road, Brixton, Lambeth, Norbury and Peckham fire stations attended the scene.

The fire is believed to have been caused by a lithium-ion battery for an electric bicycle which failed while charging.
