A family of six had a lucky escape from a house fire on Maplestead Road in Dagenham early this morning.
Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers dealt with the fire on a two storey house. The ground floor was completely destroyed by the blaze, which also badly damaged the first floor.
Two adults and four children left the property before the arrival of the Brigade, thankfully no injuries. A further 20 people left adjacent properties before the arrival of the Brigade.
The Brigade was called at 0541 and the fire was under control by 0705. Fire crews from Barking, East Ham and Ilford fire stations attended the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
