Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued a four year old girl from a flat fire on Wellington Row in Bethnal Green last night.
Fire crews arriving on scene were met by a woman who had escaped from the blaze, along with two children. She told crews that her young daughter was still inside the flat so they immediately entered the property and rescued the girl. She was suffering from slight smoke inhalation and was taken to hospital for precautionary checks by London Ambulance Service crews.
The flat on the third floor was badly damaged by the blaze and made uninhabitable. Around 20 people evacuated the property before the arrival of the Brigade.
Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers attended the scene.
The Brigade was called at 2313 and the fire was under control by 0020. Fire crews from Chingford, Bethnal Green, Whitechapel and Shadwell fire stations attended the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation by London Fire Brigade’s officers and the police
