Three fire engines and 15 firefighters and officers dealt with a flat fire on Stuart Road in Thornton Heath this afternoon.
The ground floor flat, in the three storey house conversion, was badly damaged by the blaze.
Two women left the property before the Brigade arrived. They were suffering from smoke inhalation and were treated on the scene by London Ambulance Service crews.
The Brigade was called at 1352 and the fire was under control by 1500. Fire crews from Norbury and Woodside fire stations attended the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
