Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers were called to a fire at a house in Lower Broad Street, Dagenham.
Part of the first floor of a terraced house was damaged by fire. Sadly a man was pronounced dead at the scene by London Ambulance Service.
The Brigade was called at 1447 and the fire was under control at 1559. Fire crews from Dagenham, Wennington and Barking fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service.
