Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers were called to a fire at a bakery on Milkwood Road in Herne Hill last night.
Part of the bakery was damaged by fire.
Watch Manager John Stevens was at the scene said: “When we arrived at the scene there was lots of smoke coming out of the bakery which caused trains passing overhead through Herne Hill train station to slow down. Despite having difficulty getting access, the crews worked really well to get into the property, find the fire and then extinguish it so it was contained to a small area.”
The Brigade was called at 0335 and the fire was under control by 0452. Fire crews from Brixton and West Norwood fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
