Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers were called to a flat fire in Deptford yesterday evening.
Part of a five roomed flat on the third floor of a five storey block of flats was damaged by the blaze. A man and woman and three children left the property before the Brigade arrived. The man suffered from smoke inhalation was treated at the scene by London Ambulance Service.
The Brigade was called at 1751 and the incident was over by 1847. Fire crews from Lee Green, Whitechapel and East Greenwich fire stations attended the incident.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
