Six fire engines and 35 firefighters and officers were called to a fire at a building under construction in South Street, Romford.
Part of the first floor of the building was damaged by fire.
The Brigade was called at 1859 and the fire was under control at 2055. Fire crews from Romford, Hornchurch, Dagenham, Harold Hill and Ilford fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
