Grass fire - Southall

Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a grass fire at a sports centre in Windmill Lane in Southall.

Around six hectares of grassland, roughly the same size as six football pitches, were damaged by fire. The Brigade's 999 Control Officers received 18 calls to this fire.

Tips on preventing grass fires 

• Never leave camp fires or barbecues unattended and extinguish them properly after you have finished using them
• Clear away bottles, glasses and any broken glass to avoid them magnifying the sun and starting a fire
  Dispose of smoking materials such as cigarettes safelySouthall
• Explain to children the dangers of playing with and lighting fires

The Brigade was called at 2347 and the fire was under control at 0149. Fire crews from Southall, Ealing and Heston fire stations attended the scene.
