Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire at a semi-detached house in Devonshire Way in Croydon.
Most of the first floor was damaged by the fire and the loft space of the adjacent building was destroyed. Two adults and two children left the property before the arrival of the Brigade. There were no reports of any injuries.
The Brigade was called at 0946 and the fire was under control at 1116. Fire crews from Woodside, Addington and Beckenham fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire has been recorded as accidental and is believed to be linen sheets and laundry being left against a switched on lightbulb.
