Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers dealt with a fire in a shop with flats above on Katherine Road in Forest Gate.
Part of the ground floor shop was damaged by fire. Around 15 adults evacuated the flats above before the Brigade arrived.
The Brigade was called at 1609 and the fire was under control by 1718. Fire crews from Stratford, East Ham, Leytonstone and Plaistow fire station are at the scene. The cause of the fire is believed to accidental due to a poor electrical connection.
