Fire investigators believe that a cigarette was the cause of a fire at a house in Chaldon Way, Coulsdon.
A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade said: “If you smoke, it’s so important to ensure your cigarette is disposed of carefully. Make sure your cigarette is fully out and use a proper ashtray that won’t burn or tip over easily, and never leave your lit cigarette unattended.”
Small parts of the ground and first floors of the property were damaged in the fire.
The Brigade was called at 2131 and the fire was under control at 2220. Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers from Purley, Wallington and Croydon fire stations attended the scene.
