Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters tackled a pub fire on Camberwell Grove.
Part of the first and second floor was damaged by fire. The extraction system from the first floor to the roof was also affected. Around 50 people were evacuated from the pub before the Brigade arrived. There were no injuries.
Six people were evacuated from a neighbouring property as a precaution.
Station Manager Andy Walton said:
“Crews are worked hard in challenging and humid conditions to bring the fire under control preventing lateral fire spread to neighbouring properties.”
The Brigade was called at 2040 and the fire was under control by 0211. Fire crews from Peckham and surrounding stations were at the scene.
The fire is believed to have been caused by a thermostat failing on a deep fat fryer, causing the oil to catch alight.
