Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers were called to a mound of rubbish on fire in Viatorium Place in Bethnal Green last night.
A small part of the rubbish was damaged by fire. Fortunately there were no injuries or damage to property.
Watch Manager Storme Alexander was at the scene, she said: “Fire crews worked quickly to put the fire out. Once the fire was under control they remained on site for several hours to ensure there were no deep seated pockets of fire.”
The Brigade was called at 2144 and the incident was under control by 2341. Fire crews from Whitechapel, Bethnal Green, Shoreditch and Dowgate were at the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
