Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers were called to a fire at a flat in Pampisford Road, Croydon.
Part of a first floor flat was damaged by fire. Firefighters rescued two dogs and two cats from the affected flat and returned them to their owners.
The Brigade was called at 1016 and the fire was under control at 1123. Fire crews from Croydon, Purley and Wallington fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is believed to be a cooker hob.
