Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers were called to a fire in the kitchen of a flat in Gainsborough Avenue, Manor Park.
Part of a three-roomed flat on the first floor was damaged by the fire. One woman left the property before the Brigade arrived and one woman was rescued from the first floor landing by crews wearing breathing apparatus.
They were both taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews suffering with smoke inhalation.
The Brigade was called at 0423 and the fire was under control at 0506. Fire crews from Ilford, Stratford and East Ham fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service.
