Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire at a university building on Peckham Road, Peckham.
Part of a dust extractor fan in a wood-working classroom was damaged by fire. Around 400 people left the building before the arrival of the Brigade. There were no reports of any injuries.
The Brigade was called at 1543 and the fire was under control at 1743. Fire crews from Peckham, New Cross, Brixton and Lambeth fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental due to sparks from an electric saw igniting wood dust.
