Fifteen fire engines and around 100 firefighters were called to a fire at a car breakers and tyre workshop yard on Darent Industrial Park in Erith.
Eight shipping containers and two cars were destroyed by the fire.
Station Manager Lee Sparks said: "Crews remained on scene throughout the afternoon.
"The area was gridlocked with traffic so we asked motorists to try and avoid the area wherever possible, particularly Manor Way and the surrounding roads."
The Brigade was called at 1107 and the fire was under control by 1348.
Fire crews from Erith, Bexley, Plumstead, Sidcup and surrounding fire stations attended the scene as well as colleagues from Kent Fire and Rescue Service.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
