Eight fire engines and 60 firefighters were called to a flat fire on Willingham Way in Kingston.
A flat on the 13th floor of a 15 storey building was alight.
At the height of the incident the 999 Brigade Control officers received 16 calls alerting them to the incident.
The Brigade was called at 1019 and the fire was under control by 1119. Fire crews from Surbiton, Kingston, Twickenham, Sutton, New Malden and Wandsworth fire stations were at the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
