Eight fire engines & around 60 firefighters tackled a house fire on Crescent Road in Woolwich.
The fire badly damaged the first floor and roof of the property.
A man left the property before the Brigade arrived. He was suffering from smoke inhalation and was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.
The Brigade was called at 1833 and the fire was under control by 2028. Fire crews from Plumstead and surrounding fire stations were at the scene.
The blaze is believed to have caused by materials being placed too close to an open fire.
