Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a fire at a care home on Bensham Manor Road in Thornton Heath.
Part of the first floor was damaged by the fire and a roof extension of the end-of-terraced building was destroyed. Five residents and a member of staff left the property before the Brigade arrived. There were no reports of any injuries.
The Brigade was called at 1216 and the fire was under control by 1321. Fire crews from Norbury, Croydon, Beckenham and Forest Hill fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service.
