Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a tyre and rubbish fire on wasteland in Osier way in Leyton.
Around three tonnes of tyres and general rubbish, equivalent to the size of a large Hippopotamus, was destroyed by the blaze. The fire also damaged a small part of an adjacent recycling centre.
The Brigade was called at 2307 and the fire was under control at 0043. Fire crews from Leyton, Leytonstone and Homerton fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service.
