Two fire engines and around 10 firefighters were called to a fire at a café on Northwold Road in Hackney.
Part of a kitchen and the café area suffered light smoke damage. There were no reported injuries.
A very small fire had already been extinguished before the arrival of the Brigade.
The Brigade was called at 1630 and the fire was under control by 1634. Fire crews from Stoke Newington and Tottenham fire stations attended the scene.
The fire is believed to have been caused by a fault within a dishwasher.
