Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire at a flat on Borough Road in Borough.
A kitchen in a first floor flat was damaged by fire. There were no reported injuries.
The Brigade was called at 2126 and the fire was under control by 2152. Fire crews from Dowgate, Dockhead and Old Kent road fire stations attended the scene.
The fire is believed to have been caused by a fault in a cooker hood extractor fan.
