Two fire engines and around 10 firefighters were called to a fire on a balcony in Globe Road, Bethnal Green.
A fridge freezer stored on the balcony of a fifth floor flat was destroyed by fire. There were no reports of any injuries.
A London Fire Brigade spokeswoman said: “If you live in a block of flats, it is important to keep communal areas and staircases free from clutter, including mobility scooters and wheelchairs.
“Storing items in communal areas can block residents’ escape routes if they need to get out and hamper our firefighters who are trying to tackle the fire or reach people if they need rescuing.”
The Brigade was called at 1456 and the fire was under control at 1519. Fire crews from Bethnal Green fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
