Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire at a bungalow on Tiverton Avenue in Ilford.
A garage attached to the mid-terraced bungalow was destroyed by the fire and part of the ground floor of the building, which had a loft conversion, was damaged. A small part of an adjoining garage was also damaged.
Firefighters led one man to safety from the rear garden of the affected property. One woman from the adjoining property was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation by London Ambulance Service crews.
The Brigade was called at 1346 and the fire was under control by 1441. Fire crews from Hainault, Woodford, Ilford and Leytonstone fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
