Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire at a hostel on Romford Road in Forest Gate.
Part of a two roomed studio flat on the lower ground floor was damaged by fire. Ten people left the building before the arrival of the Brigade. There were no reports of any injuries.
The Brigade was called at 1458 and the fire was under control by 1538. Fire crews from Ilford, Plaistow, Stratford and Leytonstone fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service.
