Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters were called to a fire at a flat in Ingrave Street in Battersea.
Part of one flat on the 14th floor of the 15 storey building was damaged by fire.
Firefighters rescued one man from the property and he was treated at the scene and taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews, where he sadly later died.
The Brigade was called at 1821 and the fire was under control at 1928. Fire crews from Battersea, Wandsworth, Tooting, Fulham and other surrounding fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
