Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire at a flat on Flora Gardens in Hammersmith.
A flat on the third floor of a five-storey block was damaged by the fire. Three people left the affected flat before the arrival of the Brigade and a further two people left a neighbouring flat as a precaution. One man was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.
The Brigade was called at 0240 and the fire was under control by 0353. Fire crews from Hammersmith, Fulham and Chiswick fire stations were at the scene.
The fire is believed to be accidental and caused by a modified disposable lighter on a bed igniting bedding.
