Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a fire at a recycling barn on Perry Road in Dagenham.
Around 150 tonnes of mixed cardboard and paper recycling waste was alight inside a single-storey, open-fronted recycling barn. There were no reports of any injuries.
The Brigade was called at 0200 and the fire was under control by 0432. Fire crews from Barking, Dagenham, Ilford and East Ham fire stations were at the scene.
The Brigade’s Fire Investigators believe the fire was caused by a lithium-ion battery within the recycling which was damaged during work on site.
