Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a telecommunications phone mast alight on Becontree Avenue in Dagenham.
A 20m phone mast was destroyed by the fire. Residents from nearby properties were evacuated by the Metropolitan Police Service as a precaution. There were no reports of any injuries.
The Brigade was called at 0134 and the fire was under control by 0254. Fire crews from Ilford and Dagenham fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service.
