Fire at block of flats - Lewisham

Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire at a block of flats on Russett Way in Lewisham.

A small part of the communal hallway on the sixth floor of a 13-storey building was damaged by the fire and an electrical intake box was destroyed. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued six adults from a sixth floor flat. They were assessed by London Ambulance Service crews and were uninjured.

The Brigade was called at 0448 and the fire was under control by 0548. Fire crews from Greenwich, Lewisham, Deptford and New Cross fire stations were at the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
