Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a fire at a flat on Epping Close on the Isle of Dogs.
Part of a three-roomed flat on the sixth floor of the building was damaged by fire and most of the roof void above the flat was also damaged by the blaze. Two men left the building before the Brigade arrived and firefighters evacuated six people from flats on the fire floor as a precaution. One man was taken to hospital.
The Brigade was called at 0326 and the fire was under control by 0506. Fire crews from Millwall, Poplar, Shadwell, Whitechapel, Bethnal Green and Plaistow fire stations attended the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service.
