Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire at a school on Vauxhall Street in Brixton.
A small part of the second floor of the three storey school was damaged by the fire. Firefighters, wearing breathing apparatus, ventilated the heavily smoke logged property. There were no reports of any injuries.
The Brigade was called at 1724 and the fire was under control by 1806. Two fire crews from Brixton and two crews from Clapham fire stations attended the scene.
The Brigade’s Fire Investigators believe the fire was accidental and involved a fridge freezer.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “Nearly one fire a day in London involves white goods.
“If you are concerned about the safety of a product stop using it and make your concern known to the retailer, manufacturer or your local Trading Standards office.”
